# Gambit rulebook (v2)

## 1. meld

A meld is a face-up set of three or more cards of one rank laid from the
hand. Melds score at end of round and are frozen once laid.

## 2. trick

A trick is one card from each player in turn order; highest card of the led
suit wins unless trumped.

## 3. capture

Capture is taking the trick's cards into your score pile. Second edition
change: captured cards are kept face-down and may not be inspected.

## 4. sequence

A sequence is three or more consecutive ranks of one suit. First edition
called this a "run"; renamed in v2 to avoid confusion with the dealing run.

## 5. scoring

Round score = melds laid + captured counters - deadwood left in hand.
First player to 500 wins the match.
